Chongsong apples are exported to Southeast Asia at a good price. The president of the Bintang Group Ong(60) who has 16 large shopping mall in Malaysia, visited an orchard in Ongjeom-ri Pachon-myeon Cheongsong Province in order to import Cheongsong apples.

President Ong announced he will import 400 tons of Cheongsong apples until next April at the starting price of 2,500 won per kilogram. The Bintang Group already imported 12 tons of Cheongsong apples this March. They sold the apples to three large scale retail markets in Kuala Lumpur.

Ong said, "I am very pleased to visit the beautiful apple orchard. Cheongsong apples are so sweet and juicy that they are the best I've ever tasted and the best apples in the world. When Choi Woong, the vice governor of Cheongsong, who was in charge of the tour of the apple orchard, asked if Cheongsong apples were competitive in the Southeast Asia markets, Ong answered, "Apples from many countries are sold in Malaysia, but none of them are as sweet as Cheongsong apples." He also commented, "Cheongsong apples will have a high price in accordance with its taste and quality."

Other Southeast Asian countries are also interested in Cheonsong apples. Cheongson Apple International Symposium held by Cheongsong Province at Cheongsong Agricultural Technology Center has thirty buyers from five Southeast Asian countries. Currently Korean apples are 1,100-1,500 won per kilogram, but Cheongsong apples are exported at the price of 2,500 won to 3,500 per kilogram. Han Dong-su, the governor of Cheongsong Province, said, "We support the export of Cheonsong apples and we are extending the budget for more environmentally-friendly apple farming."

청송사과 동남아시장 진출

청송사과가 좋은 가격으로 말레이시아 등 동남아 시장에 진출한다.

말레이시아에서 16개 대형 쇼핑몰을 운영 중인 빈탕그룹 옹(60) 회장은 23일 청송사과 수입을 위해 청송 파천면 옹점리의 과수원을 방문했다.

옹 회장은 이날 1차로 30t(㎏당 2천500원선)을 선적하는 등 내년 4월까지 300여t의 청송사과를 수입하기로 했다. 빈탕그룹은 앞서 올 3월 청송사과 12t을 수입, 말레이시아 쿠알라룸푸르 대형 유통매장 3곳을 돌며 청송사과를 홍보한 바 있다.

옹 회장은 "아름다운 사과농장을 방문해 기쁘다"면서 "청송사과는 당도가 높고 수분이 많아 어느 나라 사과보다도 맛이 뛰어나다. 내가 맛본 사과 중에서 최고"라고 말했다. 사과농장 안내를 맡은 최웅 청송부군수가 말레이시아 등 동남아 시장에서 경쟁력이 있는지에 대해 묻자 옹 회장은 "말레이시아에서 판매 중인 중국, 호주, 미국, 아프리카, 뉴질랜드 등의 사과는 청송사과에 비해 당도가 떨어진다"며 "청송사과 한 알 한 알에 라벨을 붙이는 등 특화하면 맛과 품질에 걸맞은 가격을 받을 수 있을 것"이라고 했다.

다른 동남아 국가들도 청송사과에 관심을 보이고 있다. 청송군이 23일 청송군농업기술센터에서 연 청송사과 국제심포지엄에는 동남아 5개국 바이어 30명이 참석했다.

현재 국내 사과의 수출단가는 ㎏당 1천100~1천500원대이지만 청송사과는 ㎏당 2천500원~3천500원대에 수출되고 있다.

한동수 청송군수는 "청송사과 수출을 위한 행정적인 지원이 결실을 맺고 있다"며 "앞으로 친환경 사과재배를 위해 더 많은 예산 지원을 하겠다"고 말했다.
