Nights on Guam are more extravagant than it is during the day.

Nights on Guam take place on top of stages lit up by blinding light featuring dance performances by beautiful women in bikinis or hair-raising magic shows. In comparison, there are also evening shows where tourists can enjoy watching traditional Chamorro dances while eating their dinner. Guam is even more enticing to visitors because of its spectacular nightlife. By creating theatrics and performances through unique storytelling, "tours made by people" which draws the interest of the tourists is blossoming on Guam.

◆ Sand Castle

Sand Castle offers the best show on Guam. The show celebrated its 20th anniversary this year since its first show back in 1999. The show unfolds in a private theater and consists of dance performances which can be seen in New York or Chicago and a Vegas-style magic show. A martial arts demonstration and acrobatic performances also take place in between. The major characteristic of the Sand Castle show is that it utilizes the entire theater as a stage.

The brilliant lighting effects, extravagant dances, and the penetrating sound effects mesmerize the audience as soon as they sit in their seats. The acrobats perform jaw dropping stunts above the crowd climbing up and down ropes hanging from the ceiling without any safety equipment. The crowd hold their breath as they anxiously watch the show fearing that they might cause one of the acrobats to make a mistake.

The highlight of the show is the magic show which features a huge tiger. Even though they know that it is a magic show, the size of the tiger on stage overwhelms the audience. The show provides the audience with an opportunity to see a tiger up close – something they were only able to do from afar at zoos.

Since the Sand Castle Show is performed in a private theater located inside a hotel, it is possible for guests to enjoy pre-ordered meals, drinks, and side dishes while watching the show. The waiters and waitresses try to get as close to the guests, so they do not miss their order. They move about busily to ensure that orders are served within 5 minutes. The speed at which service is provided is directly linked to how much revenue is generated considering the waiters have only a 90-minute window of opportunity to make as much money as they can.

After the show, the performers wait at the entrance so that guests can take pictures with them on their way out. The performers react kindly even when guests wrap their arms around their shoulders. They are skilled when dealing with unusual situations since people from all over the world come to see the show.

◆ Pacific Fantasy Dinner Show

Water parks are another attraction which tourists can enjoy on Guam which has been blessed with beautiful scenery. There are many 5-star hotels and resorts on the island but only a handful are located on the coast. One of them is the Pacific Island Club referred to as PIC. Although it is located away from the downtown area of Tumon, it is a resort popular among Koreans due to its proximity to K-Mart and for serving Korean dishes at every meal. Korean restaurants and convenience stores are located nearby; therefore, it is an ideal accommodation for Korean tourists who get homesick when they travel.

Another attraction of PIC is the Pacific Fantasy Dinner Show. Guests can enjoy a buffet dinner while watching shows performed by local Chamorros in an outdoor amphitheater. Traditional Chamorro dances are performed in front of a large cascading waterfall.

As the performers become more excited, they began shouting to create an overwhelming atmosphere. Usually, the lead male dancer makes a long, sharp sound which sounds something along the lines of "oo-wee". The cry is loud enough that it can be heard by the entire audience even without a mic.

There are various props on stage. A traditional house stands at the center of the stage. Performances begin when the dancers come out of the structure. However, another stage has been set up next to the roof of the house to prevent the audience's attention being focused in one place demonstrating appropriate use of space.

Moreover, the water cascading down the fall is directed to flow through the center of the stage. A traditional boat floats on top of the stream from which dancers perform various dances. Despite the fact the audience is inside the resort, the way in which the stage has been set up makes it feel as though one is watching the performance in the ocean or in a river. Throughout the performance, dancers spontaneously jump into the crowd and heighten the festive mood by encouraging the guests to dance along.

The highlight of the Pacific Fantasy Show is the fire dance. A muscular male dancer twirls a rod with fire on the ends. He spins it powerfully making it almost seem like the fireballs connect into a circle. The dancer performs various traditional dances and moves while spinning the rod throughout the air. Female dancers who previously performed graceful dances with flowers in their hair presented a strong image when doing the fire dance. Unlike the men, female dancers demonstrated an extraordinary sense of rhythm as they twirled their fire-lit poi to the music.

Towards the end of the show, Siheky, PIC Resort's mascot appeared on the stage. Siheky is a mascot based upon an endangered native bird called a kingfisher. A long-lasting memory is imprinted onto the minds of the guests as memories of an impressive performance and a mascot to remember it by overlap in their minds.

Coconut is plentiful in Guam. For this reason, coconuts are widely used in a variety of dishes while the empty coconut husks are used to make charcoal. Barbeque grilled over these coconut husks is another thing tourist can enjoy on their trip to Guam.

Coconut charcoal is relatively easier to light compared to ordinary charcoal. They are hard but they can easy be torn apart along cracks. They can also be broken up into thin fibers making it easier for them to catch on fire. Once lit, they slowly burn like a wick on a candle maintaining a fire which is ideal for cooking. In addition, the scent of coconut seeps into food adding a deep, savory taste to it.

Typically, tourists can enjoy barbeques at resorts, hotels, and restaurants around the island. Most often, the good is cooked using coconut charcoal. It is better to enjoy eating barbeque in the evening to avoid the heat of the day and also to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere after sunset.
