
When talking about Cheongsong UNESCO Global Geopark, the Ecological Geology Section of the Tourism Policy Division, Cheongsong-gun cannot be left out. The Ecological Geology Section plays an active role as a "think tank," managing the overall protection and maintenance of the geopark.
The Ecological Geology Section also runs an education program for residents who do not have an enough understanding of the geopark and execute strategies of improving and differentiating Cheongsong Geopark from other geoparks by developing tour programs.
Kim Yeong-jin is the chief of the Ecological Geology Section. Section Chief Kim puts a lot of importance on fields. He participates in field education programs for geological commentators and visits geotrails to communicate with tourists as often as he can.
Assistant Director Ju Seong-ok was recruited as a geological expert. Ju is in charge of educating geological commentators and provides them with professional geological knowledge about each geological attraction, such as correct periods, formation process and special features.
Ju is also in charge of the revalidation of National Geopark, which is underway this year and prepares the foundation for more frequent use of Cheongsong Geopark in academic and research fields.
Assistant Director Kim Gye-hyeon is in charge of promoting the geopark. Last year, more than five million tourists visited Cheongsong and many of them experienced geotour. This shows Kim's efforts and achievement.
"This Ecological Geology Section pursues the ethics and goals of UNESCO with a sense of duty to introduce the geology of Cheongsong not only to Koreans but also to people around the world," said Chief Kim Yeong-jin of the Ecological Geology Section. "We will do our utmost to have the geology of Cheongsong contribute to the growth of the local tourism industry and the local economy."
